Running your volumetric study

With the Run Study form (study > Volumetrics > Volumetric Study > Run Study) you can run the volumetric study you defined with the previous workflow steps of the Volumetric Study workflow.

If you are running your study locally, ensure that your PC has sufficient memory to run the simulations efficiently. To increase the number of simultaneously running Batch Servers, see The JewelSuite Batch Server and the JewelSuite Service Coordinator.

To run a volumetric study

  1. In the Study drop-down list, select the relevant study. Upon selecting a study, the Designs table is populated with all the designs available for that study.
  2. In the Job scheduler drop-down list you can optionally select the execution platform to perform the uncertainty calculations. 'Local' refers to execution on your own machine (i.e. with the JewelSuite Service Coordinator), but you may have other platforms available.
  3. Important   When your job scheduler is set to 'Local', this means the execution is performed by the JewelSuite Service Coordinator. The JewelSuite Service Coordinator is an application which takes care of scheduling and monitoring the realizations, and starts automatically when starting a study run. The JewelSuite Service Coordinator automatically starts the JewelSuite Batch Server, which takes care of the uncertainty calculations. The JewelSuite Service Coordinator will start 'minimized'. Do not close it as this will shut down the process. If closed by accident, you have to re-start it manually. When re-started, it will try to recover the currently active study runs, however, some realizations may have failed and might require a re-run. See also The JewelSuite Batch Server and the JewelSuite Service Coordinator.
  4. Check the checkbox of each design that you want to include in your run.
  5. Abbreviation Design

    TN

    Tornado

    LH

    Latin Hypercube

    PB Plackett-Burman
Abbreviations of designs created with the Single Click Study tool
  6. The order in which the designs are listed determines in what order the designs are run. You can change the order of the designs in the table using the arrows at top of the table ( ). When you are done making your selection, click Apply or OK.
  7. While the designs are being executed, you can add new designs and change their order on the Run Study form. Make sure the change in the order is applied to the new designs that are not already in the queue. Run the updated list of designs.
  8. Upon clicking Apply or OK, you are prompted with the question to save your solution. To run your study, you have to save your solution to ensure that input parameters and run results are in sync. If you want to save your solution under a different name, select No and select Save As before running the study.
  9. After the solution has been saved, and you selected 'Local' as job scheduler (step 2), the JewelSuite Service Coordinator starts automatically in minimized mode. Do not close it down while the study is still running. Also see The JewelSuite Batch Server and the JewelSuite Service Coordinator.
  10. Next, the Results Summary form (which is the next workflow step) opens automatically. Once the run has finished, the results are updated automatically, see Results Summary.
The current status of the realization runs, executed by the JewelSuite Batch Server, is continuously updated in the Output Information pane (Workspace > Panes). Note that while a study runs, you can save the solution. You can review the list of all the models that are used in your study and the execution order, by selecting the Logging Messages option from the drop-down list. When you close and reopen your solution during the realization runs, the old logging messages are no longer available.

How the Service Coordinator host window operates with JewelSuite

(Only applicable when your job scheduler is set to 'Local'.)

Closing JewelSuite  As long as the Service Coordinator host window remains open, you can close JewelSuite while realizations are being executed. When you do so, you will be prompted to save your solution. Select Yes to ensure that all your changes and results of finished realizations are saved. The JewelSuite Batch Server will keep executing the realizations as long as the Service Coordinator window is open.

Re-opening JewelSuite  If you closed JewelSuite while realizations were being run, and re-open it, the progress of the study is updated and the results are loaded automatically.

Closing the Service Coordinator window  You must keep the Service Coordinator window open until all your realizations are executed, otherwise the JewelSuite Batch Server will abort running the study.

Important  In case of an unexpected shut-down or system restart while running your realizations, you will have to restart the JewelSuite Service Coordinator in order to finalize the runs. When re-started, it will try to recover the currently active study runs, however, some realizations may have failed and you have to re-run them.
